berry organized

+

=

i am embarrassed to say that the before picture was my top drawer after only living in our new home for 2 months.... i cant even tell you how much time i spent digging for bobby pins! this drawer holds everything that i use on a regular basis so something had to change... after going to the farmers market {and eating a huge fruit salad} i took a note from real simple and their new uses for old things. these berry baskets are the perfect size to help me contain my overflow of beauty products.

ps.
i like to cut stripes of ribbon or paper and secure about 10 bobby pins
to it. that way they are easy to find in a drawer and you can just toss
a strip in your bag on the go,saving precious minutes... {its not easy
taming your hair while taming your child...}
when your at make up counter and they give you samples of the products
you use, instead of throwing them away or getting lost in the bottom of
a basket, put them all in a small container. that way when you decide
to jet off to palm springs for the weekend you can just thrown this in
your bag knowing you'll have all the usual suspects and more space for
all 4 pairs of shoes!

summer scents

there is nothing better than the smell of the beach and flowers in the summer, well unless you smell like them! here are a few of my favorite summer scents (or in our case year round scents out here in cali!)i am definitely an "oil" girl but every now and then ill spritz on a perfume, so there is a variety of both. i personally own all of these so i promise even if your stuck at work- stick a bowl of water under your desk, put your tootsies in it, roll on one of these scents, close your eyes and you'll immediately be laying on the shore with a mojito feeling that sweet sting of the sun and salt.
{pikaki lei fragrance oil - you can pick this up at whole foods!}
{hawaiian song oil coco-mango flavor : i got this at the abc store in waikiki... im running low - guess i'll have to go back...)
{cb secret history: at the beach 1966 - all of their scents are unique and amazing... you have to smell burning leaves!}

dirty hair... no hat required

getting up early, going to bed late... barely enough time for a shower.. definitely not enough time to blow dry the heap on top of your head. here are three hair styles that can make your blow dry last one more day (or for those really rough weeks two.) they can all be done in less than a minute with items you most likely have floating in the bottom of your purse between the tampon, gum wrapper, and target receipts.

* the half(awake) twist *

hold your hair like you are putting it in a pony except with your hand upside down as shown. next twist that hand up, it should now be facing down. secure where it all meets in the middle.

*the (my-hair-is-actually)messy bun*

start with a regular pony tail. wrap hair around. secure with cute bow, button, bobby pin or whatever you have.

* its knot my hair day*

take two pieces of hair knot them. then knot again. keep on knotting until your satisfied. secure.

ooh la lashes

Brigitte Bardot and those eyelashes. I seriously think I grew up in the wrong era. Any time period which begs for big hair and false lashes- SIGN ME UP! The good news is that basically every drug store or beauty supply store still carries these things! They take a couple minutes to put on and even less time to tear them off.

1.) Start with your lashes.

2.) Add your adhesive ( I recommend the clear ones!)

3.) Give them a few to dry and then curl them.

4.) Add your mascara. ( LOVE, love, LOVE Dior Show)

5.) Voi-la!!!! You're a beauty queen!!!

p.s. have fun ripping them off. make sure you use eye make up remover!!!

flower child

the best part about spring is the flowers... the best part about flowers is that they are the earths perfect accessory. put one in your hair and you are instantly transformed through sight and smell... enter the flower halo. we chose to make our flower halo using faux flowers just for practicality sake (so we can wear it again and again and again!) and lets face it – its cheaper! however if you’d like to make one using real flowers , for a special occasion , a gift or because its a tuesday.. mosey on over to free people’s blog http://blog.freepeople.com/2011/05/floral-headpiece-how-to/ and they have a great tutorial...anyways

here’s how it goes down:

(metal floral wire, cloth covered floral wire, needle nose pliers, lots of flowers, floral tape: not pictured)

twist two cloth covered wires together to your desired size, this will be the base of the crown

cut the buds from the stems, leaving enough stem (about 1 inch) to wrap the skinny metal around. form bundles, wrapping the metal around tightly, leave extra wire at the end to attach the bundles to the base.

attach to base

continue making bundles and attaching until you've filled your crown... go as tame (one or two flowers for the timid) or wild (fill with huge oversized flowers for those of you who want to make a statement) or you can also just do one big flower! so many choices what is a girl to do???

make them all!

recommendation: do not get a manicure before embarking on this project...

flower halo
once you've finished and tried it on you can wrap floral tape around the ends and or if you have any little pricklies poking you

ps... instead of party hats, we made these for my daughters 2nd birthday party. everyone took them home and i get pictures all of the time of the kids and adults wearing them around town! sweet little twist on a birthday party classic....

Shattered, spotted, polka dotted, or striped- nail art is the fun trend of the season. I can't get enough!!! With that said, "OPI" is my latest obsesh- Add "Kiss Nail Art" and it's a match made in heaven! Pastels, metallics, opaques, and sparkles- You name it, I've got it! Seriously, it's becoming a problem!!! My solution is to get creative and make use of these polishes- Animal Print, here we come!!!!!!

Other Ideas:
Try Pastels and Polka Dots
Metallics and Shattered
Opaques and Stripes
