white stripes

{finished product}

1. take everything off walls, patch holes... and if your ones of "those" then you can tape the floor, ceiling, windows, cover all the furniture, etc... i don't have the patience...

2. paint all walls your base color.

3. measure and tape. ( i did 10 inches ) remember to place tape outside the area to be painted... also if something seems off it probably is... don't just keep going ( not that i did that... ) but trust me it will save lots of time if you figure it out right away.

4. paint the stripes with your other color .. or same color different sheen or wall paper... whatever the options are endless.

if i can do it you can do it... enough said...

(for the third time... second time in one month for those of you who are confused and thought i did this post already... never gets old!) so since i once again have baby on the brain i thought i'd share with you a few pictures from the shower that i threw for the mommy to be! i realized i didn't have any pictures of the decorations from the actual shower so these are the texts pictures i would send to my sis. even though these aren't how they were set up at the shower maybe this can give you some inspiration for your next party!

donut muffins!

take the little ones and get in the kitchen - were making donut muffins! ahhh donuts...we have a love/hate relationship. when i was little we used to get donuts every weekend on our way to sunday school, so they bring back a sort of nostalgic feeling, yet every time i eat one.... ok eat two ... or three... i immediately think to myself why god? why? why is something so good so bad ..... that’s when the book spoke to me... my recipe book that is... donut mini muffins! ok ok so maybe these aren’t the best snack but muffin sounds healthier than donut.... right? plus they are small so you can just pop one or two to satisfy sugar cravings without feeling guilty. my lil’ mcnugget and i went on a mission!

(remember this is supposed to be fun and messy...so control your OCD and let them go wild...)

here's what ya need:

1/2 cup sugar

1/4 cup butter, melted

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg

1/2 cup milk

1 tsp baking powder

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup butter, melted

1/2 cup sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and grease a muffin tin, set aside. Mix up the 1/2 cup sugar, 1/4 cup butter and nutmeg in a large bowl. Then, add in the milk, baking powder and flour until just combined. Fill muffin tins about 3/4 full and bake for 15-20 minutes. side note... i made mini mini muffins.. i would recommend making them atleast the next size up...

while the goods are baking get your cinnamon-sugar mixed up. Melt 1/4 cup butter in a separate bowl. When the muffins are done, remove them from the pan. Dip the tops in the melted butter and then roll the WHOLE muffin in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Let cool... or not.

(if your kids and counters don't look like this.... your doing it wrong...)

yummmm.....

flower child

the best part about spring is the flowers... the best part about flowers is that they are the earths perfect accessory. put one in your hair and you are instantly transformed through sight and smell... enter the flower halo. we chose to make our flower halo using faux flowers just for practicality sake (so we can wear it again and again and again!) and lets face it – its cheaper! however if you’d like to make one using real flowers , for a special occasion , a gift or because its a tuesday.. mosey on over to free people’s blog http://blog.freepeople.com/2011/05/floral-headpiece-how-to/ and they have a great tutorial...anyways

here’s how it goes down:

(metal floral wire, cloth covered floral wire, needle nose pliers, lots of flowers, floral tape: not pictured)

twist two cloth covered wires together to your desired size, this will be the base of the crown

cut the buds from the stems, leaving enough stem (about 1 inch) to wrap the skinny metal around. form bundles, wrapping the metal around tightly, leave extra wire at the end to attach the bundles to the base.

attach to base

continue making bundles and attaching until you've filled your crown... go as tame (one or two flowers for the timid) or wild (fill with huge oversized flowers for those of you who want to make a statement) or you can also just do one big flower! so many choices what is a girl to do???

make them all!

recommendation: do not get a manicure before embarking on this project...

flower halo
once you've finished and tried it on you can wrap floral tape around the ends and or if you have any little pricklies poking you

ps... instead of party hats, we made these for my daughters 2nd birthday party. everyone took them home and i get pictures all of the time of the kids and adults wearing them around town! sweet little twist on a birthday party classic....
